SheKicks: The Pitch as a Classroom

In August 2025, more than 250 girls in Korogocho, many of them already mothers, spent a week on a football pitch that doubled as a classroom.

Train. Learn. Lead.

MKK’s SheKicks football-for-development programme launched in Korogocho with a week-long camp for girls aged 12 to 18. Each day began with a shared breakfast, staff and participants eating as equals, then moved into workshops on human rights, nutrition and child protection, and training designed to build discipline, confidence and leadership. The week ended with a three-day tournament and a celebration, with Kenyan singer Nameless as guest of honour.

Not money. Not food. A future.

At the end of the camp, the girls asked for life opportunities: work, training, a future. SheKicks is working toward it with local women’s teams, education through sport and new professional pathways.

Pheny’s story

Pheny Muga, a SheKicks participant, gave a review from the neighbourhood she comes from. She doesn’t hide that it’s hard, and she is just as direct about what keeps her going:

“Life here is not always easy but it makes me stronger. Sometimes it’s not easy to train but I keep going because I believe in my dream. Football gives me hope, it keeps me focused and helps me believe in a better future.”
