Empower Her: A Saturday Safe Space for Young Mothers

Every Saturday in Korogocho, adolescent mothers have somewhere to go, and their children have somewhere safe to be.

Somewhere to go. Somewhere safe to be.

Empower Her, part of the Adolescent Girls Power Programme, supports adolescent mothers aged 10 to 18 and their children aged 0 to 3. Every Saturday, young mothers share experiences, support one another and learn what early motherhood asks of them.

  • Free daycare for children aged 0 to 3
  • Vocational training and village savings groups
  • Parenting, nutrition and mental health support
  • Community dialogues and radio sessions that challenge stigma

The aim: a supportive community where young mothers and their children can lead fulfilling lives and build resilience.

Through Empower Her, Valary completed her training in makeup and beauty, turning a passion into a skill of her own

  • “I thank MKK for taking me for a course whereby I learned beauty and how to do makeup.” — Valary, Empower Her makeup and beauty training

MKK sees each look she creates as a step toward independence, confidence and self-belief.

The measure here is staying power: a Saturday safe space and a free daycare that have kept their doors open for the young mothers and children who depend on them.
